Default rpm's

ok i have a 94 f150 4x4 with the 5.0 and the 5 speed transmission. i put a 9 inch axle in place of the 8.8. so i have no speedometer. so my question is when i get on it in any gear when i hit 3500 rpm's it takes forever to get to 4500 or 5000. is this normal or do i have some other issues. i don't really know what the 5.0 will rap to but i would think 5000 would be ok. any input would be welcome.

thanks

Sounds like the engine is having breathing problems, should sail right up to 5K without issue in the situation you describe.

Suggest to verify air filter is clean (the easy stuff always seems to trip me up). Other than that, may have a cat converter in the early stages of plugging up.

Then, can get into the more obscure issues - fuel filter, muffler baffle failure, kink in exhaust, ignition timing issue, etc.

well the exhaust is out of the issue because i have the converters cut off and put just pipe in there place. o2 sensor is in the pipe. and for a muffler i just have one glass pack. ill check the air filter but i think that is new or newer. i never though timing could be it but that might be a possibly.
