Default Rim offset and backspacing question

Hey guys I found some 15X10 rims and it says the backspacing is 3.75 inches and its -44 offset. What exactly does this mean, I will be putting 35-12.5-15 tires on it, and want them to stick out of the fenders a little. Would this do the trick or what do I need? Thanks

I have 33x12.50 with a 4 inch lift and 15x8 wheels that have 4 in backspacing so 0 offset and they are about flush with the fender. I think if you have a 10 in wide rim with -44 mm offset which is 1.75 inches then they will stick out about an inch past fender.

Sweet, So I do in fact need a - offset correct? A positive offset would shove the tire in more and make it rub right?

yes the more positive the off set the closer into the vehicle they sit, the more negative the farther they stick out.
