Default Replacing shocks

Ok I'm replacing all four of the shocks on my truck. What should I use hydraulic? Or gas shocks? The truck will be used off road some. Any suggestions?

I went with the hydro's since their cheaper and the ride is not as stiff.

Generally, and I am by no means a shock expert but, gas shocks have fluid also but are pressuized with nitrogen which prevents cavitation or foaming of the fluid resulting in a stiffer shock especially under heavy use. In other words, an old guy like me depends on the inefficiency of the hydro shock to give me a softer ride.

Here's an excellent write up on different shocks:

Rocky Mountain Suspensions sells shocks on Ebay, I got a very good price on a set of 6 Skyjacker Hydros, I called and made the order.

The 5000's are hydros, you may end up paying a bit more for them due to the Rancho name. I believe most all shocks are basically manufactured by either monroe or gabriel.. So, choose if you want a hydro or gas, then get the best deal.

For your purpose which sounds like occasional wheeling with mostly daily driving, it's probably not worth the extra cash for the gas shocks unless you really just have to have them.
