Default removeing guage surround?

I want to remove the black section with the lens to clean all the crud that my 1996 has accumulated over the years and clean the inside of the lens. I can't find any screws, but I know its seperate from the grey part cause you can move it slightly at the bottom edge. is it just clips and must be pryed off? I don't want to screw it up.
thanks for any help. tony

Tony, there are two plastic strips that are situated horizontally in the center of your panel. A third runs horizontally across the rest of your dash andy reads,"XLT, XL, or Custom".

Gentley pry the 2 strips on your panel off with a screwdriver. The screws are under them.

their are little clips at the top, but if they are going to break( which they prolly will) they will do it if your soft or gentle. i've gotten real good at using quick steel to fix the clips on these trucks.

HELP, strips and screws out , clips released. can only pull the panel back a little as the headlight sw, **** blocks me pulling out more. does **** unscrew? or does **** and shaft come out as one piece? i know some have a release button on the sw. but the sw. looks unreachable.

To get the headlight **** off, look on the shaft. There should be a little clip in there you can pry gently with a flat screwdriver or something. Then the **** pulls right off the shaft

Does this fall under the category of "if it won't budge, get a bigger hammer" ?
I'm guessing this is why mine is missing on ol red, I actually found the **** in the door pocket, but it just spins on the end, so maybe super glue? If you break it that is...
