Default Relocate Ignition Control Module

Folks, My '88 4.9L stalls while driving, and I think the cause is that the Ignition Control Module gets hot and fails. After letting it cool of for 5 to 15 minutes, it starts and runs fine. I could easily replace the ICM, but I read that there are kits for relocating them to a cooler spot. Have you use a kit for an F150 that worked well?

Relocated is better obviously, that's why they changed it - but the system you have will work for a very long time as is.
I understand wanting to improve it but unless you're going through the things like candy, you probably don't have to bother. the original ones lasted for years.

Chris_1, I'll probably try a new on-distributor ICM with a good layer of heat sink compound, and see how far I get with that. The truck has died several times in recent weeks, once on a freeway. Fortunately I was able to coast to the shoulder. After 15 minutes, it fired up and ran well.

I have my doubts as to whether your ICM is the faulty part here. Usually when the ICM goes dead, it's dead and doesn't come back alive.

Odds are the PIP in the distributor is the faulty part. Or less likely, but possible the ignition coil.

All that being said, and due to the complexity of changing the PIP, I would be tempted to change the ICM and coil first.
