Yeah. My bud had a 02 mustang. It was red so he thought it'd be cool to put a red LED strip behind the grill to illuminate the pony. I told him he'd get pulled. He did...

Think it also varies by state. in PA you can have any of those under body lights, or any other kind of aux lighting. But for the hondas and whatnot who had them, it was legal for them to sit in a parking lot with them on, just cant drive on road. In MD if you have a lightbar, you have to have covers over your "off-road" use only lights.. easy way to get around that would be like pantyhose painted/dyed black...looks like a cover, light still comes through. Might catch on fire though :/

Wow, so you can't even put lights behind your grille??

If they're blue, red, or any other color prohibited by the DOT than I would assume so. You couldn't even see the bulbs themselves from just looking at the car, just the red illumination. He had those autozone led strip lights on the underside of the hood shining down onto the pony/grill area and apparently the cop that pulled him did not appreciate the "fine craftsmanship" of the install. lol. So, I would just stick with normal colors that are on the front of most motor vehicles.

I had white strobes in my reverse lights when I was on the Fire Dept. and got pulled over after a fire because I had forgotten to turn them off. The deputy (who was just on scene at the same fire) jumped out screaming at me for running blue strobes in my reverse lights and impersonating a police officer. I told him to go ahead and take me to jail, but he might want to take off his 1970's Elvis blue tinted sun glasses before he decided to put the cuffs on me. He decided otherwise and left without even apologizing. In Louisiana, you can have all the bells and whistles including red and blue police lights on private property as long as they are turned off on the road.

Well technically my tint and headlights are illegal, but I usually drive with my windows down so I get away with that one. It's unbelievable how many regulations there are. Which to a point I understand. But some of the things you guys are telling me are ridiculous!!! Is it true that having things such as an air intake or aftermarket turbo/SC illegal as well?

I got popped in Texas for having headers and aftermarket intake on my car years ago. I think it was in Tarrant County. They were going to put a "failed" inspection sticker on my car, but gave me the option to go back to my home county, Johnson County, to get it inspected where they didn't have emissions inspections. I don't know if Texas still does this or not. I never understood why some counties had emissions checks and other counties didn't. At least in Louisiana, to my knowledge, it's all under one set of state laws.
