Rear main seal 93 f150 4.9 I6
Anybody has done a rear main seal on a 300 CID? do you have to take the converter of or can you move the transmission around it?

The ones I've replaced were one piece seals. The transmission, converter or clutch, pressure plate; flywheel and engine cover plate all have to be removed to replace. I take an awl and started a hole in the seal on each side just above the block/cap joint put in two sheet metal screws and used them to pry the seal out with two pry bars.
Clean the seal recess good, oil the new seal and install with a seal driver. The main thing is to keep the seal straight when you drive it in.

Sorry I read it wrong it had been a long day. I didn't on the 4.9s both of those were 5sps I don't see an automatic being a problem either, but someone else here can probably give you better input on that.
