Default rear end ????

I have a 1987 f150 4x4 with a 4 speed granny low trans and 295 gears something is going bad i believe its in the gears in the front end. I also have a 92 f150 4x4 with 308 gears wondering if it would be a bad idea to swap them will i run into any problems?

Ok I'm not quite sure what you want to do...do you want to swap just one axle? If you do you will have MAJOR problems, both axles have to have the same ratio otherwise one will be trying to turn faster than the other. But if your planning on just swaping both axles to the other truck then go right ahead, I'm not sure if the 87 will have the speed sensor for the newer axle on the rear end but even if it doesnt you just leave the sensor in and dont do anything with it. As long as everything will bolt up the same you shouldnt have any probs, I cant say for sure if they will be alike, I dont think they changed much on the IFS until the mid 90s, but I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me.

Sorry i didn't tell that earlier but yes thinking of swapping both my only concern is that i am turning 2000 rpm at 55mph on the highway how much more will i turn with the lower gears i don't want to run the guts out of the engine.
Thanks for the info.
