Default random question about an old engine.

ford 370. i know it came out of a bigger truck. do any transmissions in the 3/4 or one ton trucks bolt up to this thing? it's the same block as the 429 and the 460, but being an industrial truck engine i dunno if the bolt pattern is gonna be the same. a friend of mine found one he can get cheap and wants to stuff it in a pickup. so i thought id ask and see if anyone on here could lend any information.

they fit the big block trans pattern. so you'll have to use a trans off a big block like a 460, or a diesel truck

heres a wiki about that series of motor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_385_engine

honestly though. finding parts will be a pain and prolly costly

did a little research. and it looks like any external 460 part will bolt onto the 370.
heads, intakes, oil pans, headers.

but beware, lots of the info i read say this motor is gutless. it was ran in things like f700 chassis, and school buses

i know, my dad owns an asphalt company. i used to run one every day. not very much on the top end, always wound out. but she did the job in that big *** truck. but, with a little top end work, it'd be nice in a smaller truck i think. it wont be any speed demon, and it'll drink some gas. but it ought to pull the gates off hell. i figure if he could get a decent automatic from a smaller truck to bolt up, and a higher rear end gear, so it wont stay wound so high like they do on the road in bigger trucks, it'll be a nice little pullin rig. but ive never seen anyone do this. the stuff i read says it'll bolt up to the c6's and some fmx's, but the torque converter is where the problem is. the output shaft is bigger, being an industrial engine. i read that some lincoln transmissions do the job. but i dont know where one can be found. somethin about a lincoln 426 transmission. but i dont know anything about no lincoln 426 trans.
