Radiator basics
You should be able to get a replacement rad for about $100 or so.
Mechanic should have just had it out to do the front of the motor so everything should come undone no problem.
The 'core' is the aluminum part in the middle. It's either a thin one (1") or really thick (2 1/4"). The difference should be obvious. The plastic caps on the sides are the same size for both.
Buy the same thickness; as the shroud bolts to the core and thick core shrouds are 1 1/4" less deep so they don't hit the serp belt.

Yah, looking at different ones today and measured the top. My luck, ruler at work was all worn out and not numbers but definitely not a 1". Got new upper and lower hoses and a new cap with fancy lever on it.
So when I do get a new long block, this is one less thing to do.
