I'm not sure how to post a new thread, I just joined last night and I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure it out,
So my question is regarding the 1987-1991 f150's and broncos. I've owned an 89 bronco and currently daily a 1991 f150, and as I've been looking in different junkyards and craigslist for parts and such, I've noticed that there seem to be 2 different climate control systems for these trucks. I was wondering why this might be, so I figured I'd ask on here. I know the one in my 91 and 89 were the same, and seemed to change from vent, to face, to defrost etc. somewhat electronically, did the previous one do so manually?
Family owned since new, My Grandpa's brother ordered it from the factory. He passed away at 90+ years old, and his 65 year old son drove it for a year or two until he had to move. Has 260,000 on the original 302 and AOD and is driven daily, interior in good shape as well. No plans to ever part with it.
Given the part number on your second picture has E9 as the first two numbers, that suggests that it was first used in 1989. So my guess is the other version was used previous to 89. Just a guess though.
The '87-88 HVAC control panel is significantly different from all other years in that 1) it gives the driver direct control over the compressor clutch & the recirculate door; and 2) it's the only type that uses a mechanical cable to control the mode door (all others use vacuum). It only works with the '87-88 inside duct box. I used that type for many years in my '83 Bronco because my worn-out I6 couldn't maintain enough manifold vacuum to operate the HVAC & cruise control.
