Default Question

Hey guys, I got a quick question.

Are these M5OD-R2 transmissions pieces of junk? I had mine flushed out and now the throwout bearing is making noise. I don't much like imports, and knowing that theres a Mazda transmission in my Ford truck is kind of...unnerving to me.

But heres my other question...is it more worthwhile to just swap out that one with a different kind of transmission? If so, what works with the 4.9L 300?

Thanks!

Nothing wrong with the Mazda trans. Take care of it and it will give you years of trouble free service. I wish my truck still had the Mazda it started life with. Somebody deemed fit to throw in a c6. Reliable but inefficient.

Throwout bearing has nothing to do with flushing a tranny, completely separate system that is attached to the clutch slave cylinder inside the bell housing of the transmission, its a wearable part that over the years or how you drive like riding the clutch, will need to be changed. Its a 15$ bearing. And Mazda is owned by Ford.

Yeah I figured the flush had little to do with the throwout bearing going bad, but it started doing it literally right after I got it flushed so I figured that it may have something to do with it...but I doubt it. As long as it's a reliable transmission then I'll keep it in there, it's just that I don't like anything that isn't American. I base that on experience, not hearsay haha. I've worked on so many imports with dooming problems that I do not want to own one. Like I said though, as long as it is a reliable transmission compared to everything else available to it then I'll keep it in there...but I'm paying someone to fix it if it breaks, lol.

Well if its making noise when you push in the clutch, id get that fixed soon cause otherwise i hope you can shift without a clutch to get you somewhere.

This is the result of when a throwout bearing blows.

Haha, I can shift without a clutch...but the problem is getting into first gear from a dead stop without it. Other than that I can do it

It goes away if I push the clutch in, give it gas, or let off the gas. It does not make the sound in neutral. No sound is made if I rev the engine up in neutral. So I know its the transmission. Also, I've noticed the sound of a vacuum leak coming from the left side of the truck...but it goes away when I push the clutch in. Probably the slave cylinder or something along those lines. That's why Im asking if the transmissions are pieces of junk.

Oh, but the 300 runs fine. It doesn't even care.
