Alright so I need a new vehicle and its either a NEW new car (boring, more expensive, but reliable for a long time) or an older much cheaper truck that i can afford to put money into to make it dependable and possibly even last longer than said new car. I've been pricing all the 9th gen F-150's in my area and I came across this one, even went and looked at it last night. Its not the cheapest but far from the most expensive ones. It fired right up, sounded very strong, has plenty of the things I would have spent money doing myself such as lift, tires, led headlights. I thought I'd hate the flare side but as soon as i walked up to it i loved it. Digital ODO says 85k and he swears as the second owner that it truly is only 85k miles. I'm gonna have my employer run the VIN tomorrow so I'll know for sure. Undercarriage looked surprisingly good, he keeps it under a carport and this is Texas so weather is pretty easy on it. It has the 5.0, its 2WD, extended cab, flare side, and has some cosmetic issues. there's a deep scratch on the passenger side, its hard to tell but the bottom of the fiberglass flare side is broken slightly on the driver side. There's a patch of primer on the same fender from a partial repair. There's a busted lens cover on the taillight. Interior has its normal wear and tear, nothing bad that i noticed other than EVERYTHING is red lol. The drivers seat is torn at the seam from entry/exit, the headlight **** seemed difficult to operate, it was chrome and looked like an aftermarket part, it comes off if you pull it too hard and he couldn't seem to get the dash to just light up on its own by turning it but its a small fixable issue.
A friend of mine has a paint/body shop. I say this not because I expect him to hook me up with a free paint job but because he's done all of the paint and body work on my vehicles as well as friends and families and I trust him 100% to do me right. I'm thinking if I already have to do paint and body work i could change the color right? Anyone have any negative experience on changing a vehicles color? What would work well with that RED RED RED interior?
I'm at the point of making a decision and right now were at the haggling point and at $6200, he's come down $500 so far for me. When I come back and do a more thorough look, actually drive it, and decide to purchase or not what do i need to pay more attention to? What do y'all think about the truck, the price, and what I'm wanting out of it?
If it's what you want, then only you can decide what it's worth TO YOU. I don't like modified vehicles - I like to do that myself, and what I do is far more subtle & functional than that.
But to me, that price seems extremely high for that many dents, scratches, & cracks. I might (and I'm saying: it's NOT likely I'd go this high) offer to pay the $6200 MINUS the cost of ALL the body repairs. IOW: I'd say it'd be worth the $6200 AFTER the body is all fixed. So I'd test-drive it to your friend's body shop for a quick guesstimate on that cost.
But to me, the suspension lift, BODY LIFT, wheels, tires, bullbar, clear turn lenses, cab steps, & door speakers are all NEGATIVES. The wrecked door panels are a huge problem because reproductions are not made. The only new door panels are noticeably different in many ways that I notice & don't like, so I don't even consider them to be "replacements". And they're ~$600+sh/pr, so that's another deduction from the $6200 value of the "fixed" truck. The cracked dash pad is almost as problematic, but there's ONE guy I've found (Jeffrey Amoroso on FB) who refurbishes them pretty well for ~$200, but the labor to change it out isn't $0, so I'd deduct $300 for that. The dash registers are ~$10ea used, and are pretty easy to swap. The headlight switch is more-difficult to swap, and I'd look for a genuine Ford replacement (even used), but that's another ~$150 deduction. New upholstery is in the $300-800 range, plus installation labor. Check Richmond: https://leather-auto-seats.com/produ...odel-year=1993
You managed to OMIT what year it is, and there's not enough detail in your pics for me to tell if it's '92 or '93. But '92 would be another big deduction for me.
