I have a 92 F150 custom with a 5.4 I believe. I need to pull then engine to replace a rusted oil pan. I have tried everything ense to get it out. It has to be pulled. Would it be easier to pull the engine out with the transmission still connected to the motor or disconnect it first?

 

You may not have to pull the engine completely out to perform the task. You can rent an engine hoist and they remove the motor mounts and loosen the transmission supports and see if you can raise the engine just enough to let you remove the pan. Sometimes that extra inch or two can make all the difference.

and its not 5.4, if its stock that is... 5.4 didnt come out until '97 when they totally redid the f150.

 

Well Im sorry. My grandfather didnt pass to long ago and I havent really looked up the specs for it. We've tried raising it. We've had it all the up until the transmission has touched the belly pan. And it still needs about 3/4 of an inch more room then what we have.

 

its cool man, i was just tryin to give you some info.

and when we pulled the engine on our '70 bronco, we did the transmission with it and it wasnt hard at all.

 

If you have an engine equalizer on the end of the hoist it makes matters much easier for pulling the motor especially when pulling it with the trans still attached.

 

I just pulled mine for the same reason and I didn't pull the transmission with it. Two weekends later and I am still trying to get the tranny and engine mated back up.
