More information?

Push button 4WD or Manual shifter 4WD?

Manual Hubs or Automatic locking Hubs?

Mileage?

Did you just buy the truck? or have you had it a long time?

I'm not sure if it's an actuator or the transfer case...

My 87 has manual locking hubs and a manual shifter.

Sorry I couldn't help.
