Default problems

so i had to replace my transmission selector tube inside the steering column of my truck. all went well but now when making left or right hand turns the truck tends to die out and not want to shift out of first. also in idle when i put the truck in reverse it dies. i have no idea where to start. any suggestions. help is greatly appreciated
