Default Power Steering

I have a 87 F150 that I use for plowing. The power steering just went last night. My question is can i just disconnect the pump and run with out it or will I do more dammage?

disconnect the pump from the pulley or hose?
it may bust a leak if you're steering it around manually, or you may bust a leak wrenching your steering wheel around all day hahaha

i would honestly get it fixed, strong arm steering these trucks is not fun, and then your going to try and do it pushing snow??? i had a 1980 f100 in highschool and i drove it with out power steering for like 3 monthes and then the box went out and locked up while i was driving down the road!!! thats a scary feeling

I agree that you need to get it fixed. When my pump went out it completely shut off my engine (moving at idle), and would not allow it to refire with the belt on. BTW Gatorback belts are tough LOL.

fyi it'll be easier to steer w/o power steering once you disconnect the hydraulic lines from the pump... otherwise whenever you steer you'll be manually circulating the hydraulic fluid through the pump. if you run without power steering for a while and disconnect the pump, let us know how difficult it is to steer. if it isn't too hard I might try for a power steering delete

Power steering by armstrong. I had a 78 in that condition temporarily. You will fight with it hard. It COULD cause an accident. Your steering wheel is way to small just fix it as soon as you can. I have done this and left the pump connected it was an incredible amount of drag. I would not recommend just disconnecting a power sterring pump. Just my 1.25 cents

NAPA will sell you a re-manufactured pump for around $50, and it is well worth it. I temporarily drove an '89 with no P/S and it was not fun at all.
