Default posi question/s

ive heard that if you add a posi (idk what it is, can someone tell me what it is) or put a posi to your truck, i will help it or do something to it, so that it could do a burnout with both tires, something like it,my question is, what is a posi and what does it do??!?!!?!?!?!?!

Well that's a rather vague question but put in general terms a posi-traction or limited slip or locking axle is the gearing in the center of your axle that will lock the wheels of the axle together so that they turn at the same time. Without it you have a standard or open axle and power will go to whichever wheel has the least resistance. So if your in a mud puddle one wheel will spin and the other will not move. If you are doing a burnout one wheel will burn while the others don't move.

If your engine ain't got sufficient huavos, you're less likely to break both tires loose. Expediting transfer of rubber from tire to pavement always seemed kinda ________<--(pick an unflattering word) to me.

Of course it seems silly to send the money and do the work if all you want to do is wear out both tires at once.

I have a posi trac in my rear end(96 shortbed single cab 5speed L6) and it cut down about 1 sec in my 1/4 mile.......its really more for fun unless u have a 4x4 and it would help u in the mud

Have a stock limited slip diff(posi) in my truck, extremely helpful off road. Open diffs make good boat anchors but that's it

How do you tell if you have posi in a ford? In grass and gravel it seems like both tires are at work but in mud I can't tell. I need to know if fords posi just doesn't work like a Chevys does if I don't have one stock I will put a stock one in but if it does i want to upgrade? Is there a marking on the rearend so you can tell?

If you've got a letter before your axle code, that's a good indicator. Take a look at your door jamb for it. Drivers side.
