Default performance mods that enhance mpg

people talk a lot about various mods that increase performance... cai, different thermostat, various "chargers", timing, headers, footers, exhaust, programmers, etc. My question is what of those mods (and others) also increase mpg? the rules: the mod has to be doable on a 94 5.0L and for reasonably cheap (no superchargers lol) just to prime the mental pump a little

Ignition upgrade + timing bump + spark plug gap increase = bigger spark and more complete burn..
then headers.. long tubes preferably going through either true dual 2.25" or single it into a 3" through some sort of aftermarket muffler like the ~$30 Thrush Fully Welded Muffler. let it breathe.
If you have MAF, you're in luck.. get a REAL COLD air intake and the truck will definitely see better performance and better efficiency combined with all this ^.

Footers work real well. I gained about 30 hp. There is no single mod that will show an increase in efficiently except full length headers, you cant get any better mileage than what you get, unless you are driving down a flat highway, maybe 1 or 2 mpg but you go up a big hill or hit the gas real good, or stop and go traffic, there goes your mileage, our trucks are what they are, unless you do headers, heads, intake, mass air, cam, etc you will not see any real noticeable gains.

I know no single mod will have that much effect by itself, but cumulatively they might add up to a mpg or two and give me an excuse to tinker with the truck some more lol

Prollem wit fool injection is tinkering cost too much money, at least with a carb we can really play wit timing, carb, etc and see some results.

i dont know what your talking about dirtcrew, these engines are awsome for mods and theyre just begging for more, and you can do way better than what its getting right now thats for sure, like chelios said, start with upgrading the ignition once you have a good foundation strecth the timing to about 14-16 btdc after that again let her breath exhaust and headers, cold air intake and get rid of the mechanical fan and add a electric fan, all this adds up to some good gains both in hp and mpg ive seen a 5 mpg increase in my truck so far and ive got a lift and 33's
