Default Performance chips......

I have a 5.0 with the 5 speed. Is a performance programmer a waste of $$$..? if not. Which one is good? I've heard hypertech sucks???

what year? 96 might have a few semi OK performance mods with the odb2 system but the odb1 as far as the ecus go its a waste of cash.

I have a Hypertech programmer on my 1996 4.9l, it is the older version. After I put it on I took it off because I thought it did not make a difference, but I realized I was wrong. It made some increase in power and maybe one mpg better. Mine is a 4.9 and a five speed, I do not know of how it will be on the 302.

If it's a 96 or later, get a programmer that uses the OBII port like a SCT X3. Prior to that, you would have to use a custom burned flip chip which if your truck is stock or near stock, won't make that big a difference on.
