Default P1406 trouble code

Amazingly, no one appears to have posted about this trouble code before.

This is the only code my truck is throwing (96, 4.9, 2WD) and I'm not finding much information online or in my Haynes, other than some general emissions related stuff, but I'd prefer to not throw a parts bomb at my truck, that can get pricy.

Anyone have experience with this one?

I think it's the DPFE sensor has a plugged up hose or loose hose. My SHO pulled that code way back when. I think they added the DPFE in on the trucks in 96 - funny looking thing mounted on the a/c box - above the right rear of the engine ? 2 hoses on the bottom ? Maybe that's it.

Would that be the same thing as the EGR Pressure Feedback sensor? Because that appears to be the only thing available for a 96, at least as far as Oreilly's is concerned..

DPFE is differential pressure feedback EGR. So pressure feedback sensor sounds like the same horse with a different name.
They're a little pricey for what they are though so I'd make sure that it isn't just a bad hose or an orifice plugged up with carbon or something causing it to throw a code.
As far as my experience with the SHO goes though, it seems that the early versions of the DPFE were prone to failure from humidity buildup in the exhaust system shorting them out over time.
All that's just a real good possibility, but considering the code you're getting it's the logical place to start.
