Default P0500

I have a pending code p0500 on my 96 xl 5.8l auto (e4od). The speedometer works fine, and the od light hasnt been flashing. The shifting has been a little rough, but i havent had the truck long enough to know what "normal" should be.

Suggestions? Checked the connection to the vss and it seemed fine, though there was a lot of crud up on the differential.

1. The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly
2. There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor
3. The vehicle's PCM is not correctly configured for the actual tire size on the vehicle

I would clear the code and see if it comes back.
