Question Overheating!!!

Replaced the water pump on my 1990 f150 Lariat straight 6 about a month and a half ago. Had to mount it twice because I didn't get it aligned perfectly the first time and had leakage... anyhow. Ever since then I could still smell antifreeze smell in the cab from time to time. Today, on my way home from work, the smell got stronger! I watched the temp gauge all rest of the way and it very slowly started to climb. I pulled off the freeway and stopped at 7-11, looked under her and she was leaking pretty good and it did not look like anywhere near the pump. When I got back out of the store... it had stopped??? Hummn... I drove the rest of the way home (Hitting EVERY LIGHT!!! Of Course!) and when I got here and popped the hood it was coming the heater somewhere??? Dripping down onto the frame and exhaust.

Any suggestions???

Sounds like a heater core or one of the hoses going to it. Depending on your location and how often you use the heat, you can either replace it or bypass it.

The overheating is likely just from the coolant loss in the system.

Thanks! Checked both the hoses yesterday and they both are fine. Gonna look at the core this morning. That is more than likely the issue. How can I BYPASS IT???? Please give details!

Easy... find the two hot hoses passing through your firewall into the cab, unhook them, put a hose on them connecting those two lines and not going into the cab

On that specific generation, replacing it is actually a fairly easy process. The access cover is right behind the glovebox. 4 or 5 access screws and it's right there.
