Opinion on shocks
I've searched and searched looking for a good set of shocks. I have a 93 flareside 4x4 with 31x12.50r15 swamper ssr's- no lift. I really started out thinking I wanted Ranchos but there are several negative opinions on here about them and I'm wanting to stay in the $30-$45 range.
I thought I had settled on the procomp es3000's but when I specified the location I could get the fronts w/o a lift, but the rear had 2.5" lift as the lowest option. Any knowledge on this? Is 2.5" to accomodate the slightly higher rearend?
I don't care a whole lot about off-road performance. I do take it hunting, fishing and camping etc. But I don't get too crazy with jumps etc. I usually go pretty slow unless its graveled. I need something to soak up those potholes and small buckles in the hwy. But I don't want it to ride like a boat. It's pretty rough almost like the shocks are frozen in place (is that possible).
Sidenote: it actually feels better with load in the back (maybe 1000 pounds) It previously had a 3 in body lift before I owned it. If it has too long of shocks on it, would it cause it ride better with a load?
Opinions on shocks are welcome as well as the 2.5" lift part with the pro comps.

It's just an opinion but for average use a mid priced shock ought to work allright. If you're pulling a Dukes of Hazard every so often then you really need a specialty item.
Trucks are designed to be driven loaded. When they're empty they pound. The heavier the suspension the harder they pound. There's a reason why they used to call the old ten speed straight jobs " Kidney Killers".
Thank gawd for the invention air seats !
