Default oil pressure problems

hello all in ford f150 forum.
i have a used 1990 f150 and just today he started making a odd "fluttering" noise and then the oil pressure guage just dropped to nothing! we knew it was about time to addd some oil. (he drinks a little oil maybe a quart every month or month and a half... but hey he's an old guy!) so i added a quart which brought the pressure guage up for a minute then it dropped out again. i didn't drive it far in this condition, but other than the noise, it seems to be driving OK. maybe feeling a little hesitant, but not bad. i am no mechanic but i am wondering what i should start looking at first. my father (also no mechanic, but smarter than me said it might only be the oil pressure sensor)
anyone know of something simple i should look at first before i panic. this is my first truck and i think i might love him more than my partner!

well my 5.0 started losing oil psi when you would stop and stall the converter. like stopping at a red light. then it started losing oil psi whenever it got hot. the cam, rod, and main bearings where toast. so the solution in my problem was rebuild motor or new one i chose new one.
