Default Oil help!

1992 Ford F-150
So its time to change the oil and I have heard its better to use 5w-30 Oil in the winter months? I have the 5.8L 351W in my F-150. Also what type of oil do you guys like to use?

And now I am going to change my Differentil Oil, what weight should I use?

If you have your owners manual you should refer to that for proper lubricants. If you don't have it just google "your year truck owners manual" and you can download one for free. Now in my '94 , I ran 10w40 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter. 80w90 for the rear end, but if traction loc then you need friction modifier.

I just use 10w30 year round. Its what they "recommend" to use in our trucks. Anything else is used because of personal experience/preference or the advice of others.

And depends on your trucks use. 75w90 or 80w90 for regular use is fine. But I've been told to use 75w140 if I was going to be doing a lot of towing or heavy moving. And x2 for the friction modifier with LS. Unless you use synthetic. I've heard you don't need the fm for synthetic gear oil.

alot of people will say do a burn out for the funnest way. but on your door jamb sticker it should say a 2 digit number, like mine is 19 which is non posi-traction 3.55 you can also look on your rear differential for a metal tag that will say 3L55, the L stands for limited slip and the 3.55 is your ratio. here is a site for you to check out after you get your digits.

i would also run 10-30 in the winter time.....

as far as the diff goes, i had a 2001 4x4 with the 5.4L i used the 4wheel drive alot under harsh conditions most of the time. lots of forward and reversing while mudding through slop. i was also running 35's with 3.73 gears. my manual said 75-90 for front and rear diffs. all in the same month i changed fluid in both diffs and the transfer case. i used royal purple for the trancase and lucas 75-140 for the diffs. i saw my mpg decrease by 1mpg. but my shifts felt smoother and more secure. there wasnt that dreaded clunk from the rear end when switching gears. again, i agree with eveyone else, it's all personal wants and or needs. but i would take into consideration the conditions your truck spends most of its time and adapt accordingly.
