Question oil capacity

So I'm sorry for the stupid question but I have to ask. So I'm at my grandmas b day party and my brother told me that I added to much oil to my truck. I put in 6 quarts, I have a 96 f 150 with a 5.8. My brother is a very good backyard mechanic and he. Has me second guessing myself. Can u please help me answer this. Again sorry for the stupid question

Don't call his brother a dipstick... He meant well The 5.8 is a 6 quart system. And yes, with 6 quarts, the dipstick should be right on the full mark.

My 1987 4.9L holds 6 quarts of oil with a new filter.

I think an engine in a Ford 4WD truck has a deeper oil sump pan than a 2WD truck.

Here is what's weird. I added 6 quarts of oil and my stick read over the fill line. So that's why I asked him, and I remembered reading 6 quarts in my book but that's why I was confused. Thanks a lot guys.

Once you fill the oil, after an oil and filter change, you should run the engine to ensure that the oil circulates. When the filter is full and allow the engine to rest for 5/10 minutes before checking the level.

If your brother is older then he is always right If he is younger ...
