odb1 code 33
Hi Guys,
I've got a '93 302 automatic with 147K on it. I put less than 2000 miles a year on it. Now that spring has come I've been using it for home depot runs and I've got a check engine light. It doesn't stay on all the time but it seems like when the engine is hot and it's been idling for a bit it will come on and then off when I'm decelerating. The engine runs smooth, if it wasn't for the light I wouldn't know there was an issue.
I pulled the codes and the KOEO codes is an 11 and the continuous code is 11 which I understand is good. KOER code gives me a 22, 33 and 77. the 77 and 22 are my fault because I didn't warm the engine and didn't step on the gas at the right time
the 33 is an EGR?
I'd just like a double check from someone with more experience than me. Should the EGR be replaced or can it be taken apart and cleaned? Is there anything else that I should do?
thanks!
Jeff

If you didn't do the KOER test properly then I wouldn't believe any code you get. Let the truck warm up first, run an errand or something to let it run for a few minutes. Then follow the steps and goose the throttle to the floor when prompted. Have the directions handy as some years can require other steps.
Until you do this correctly any code you get may be erroneous.
If you still get 33 then you check the vacuum on the egr line to ensure it holds vacuum, use a gauge for this, as well as pulling the engine vac at the egr (17-22hg) if the vac line won't hold vacuum then the egr can't work properly. I believe there are threads on this forum on how to repair some parts of the egr but you need to narrow your problem down first.
