Default OBD2 Tool recommendation

Hey,

I want to get an OBD-2 Scanner, for under $20 or so. I see a lot on sale at walmart etc, and even some bluetooth scanners that use an IOS app.

Can anyone recommend a bluetooth scantool with a free app, or at least staying under the $20 budget? Or is that not possible? I'm just going to be using it for myself, so don't need anything fancy at all.

I'm throwing 4 codes right now, nothing too severe, but my local O'reilly's is being a pain about doing the check engine light info, so I wanted to start checking it myself.
P0443
P0171
P0174
P0713

Thanks!

-Pat

I recommend the current version of this one:

I haven't tried the wireless ones, but this one was recommended to me years ago:

I recommend this one (iOBD2 Bluetooth),I'm not a professional, just use it for personal. The price is slightly higher, but it is acceptable.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I bought an $8 wireless bluetooth scanner. It worked for my 2014, but not the 1996.

What do you think of the AL319 instead of the AL309? That's just a newer upgraded one isnt it, and it will work for the 1996?

I doubt you'll get much from a BT adapter in a '96 truck. You won't get a whole lot from a wired one, either, because that PCM barely met OBD-2 standards back then. By modern OBD-2 standards, a '96 F is a unicorn.

Do you have a link to the $8 one you bought?

Think the AL319 would be ok to get, instead of the AL309 you recommend? They don't make the 309 anymore. I can probably ebay a used one, but I'd rather have a new one.

This looks pretty new to me, but it was only $17 a few years ago:

The more-expensive one has a better screen, and some extra lights above the buttons, but I have no idea if it works any better.

Ordered. I'll let you know how it works.

In my other thread, it was throwing the following codes before I replaced the fuel pump: (truck wouldn't start, severe detonation under load, fuel pump operating below capacity when tested.

P0443 Evaporative Purge Control Valve Circuit
P0171 System Too Lean
P0174 System Too Lean
P0713 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor “A” Circuit High

Codes were cleared, and now the CEL is on again. So I'll see what they are this time.
