Default now that its winter

Well now that its winter here in Minnesota, the dumps are spreading chemicals everywhere, so I decided to park the truck til spring. In the meantime I'm driving my winter beater. I figure while its just sitting there why not set a budget and build the engine. Then next year set a budget and build my lift...so guys I have two questions.

Who wants a 351w build thread?

And what's a good budget for an engine that has torque when needed and mileage everywhere else?
-I'm not going for a 1000hp engine that will twist its way out of the engine bay. I want my engine to be/ stay near factory specs.

I will be doing the build myself. I may have a shop do the honing and what not.( I can do it my self but I'm too afraid to mess it up)

Ill be pulling and installing the engine my self.

Ill be replacing valve covers, all ignition components, pistons and rings, all gaskets of course, torque converter, and valve+valve components.

-possibly-
Cam shaft, injectors, intake, and delete a/c

Open to all suggestions and tips. As far as brands to stay away from or look for...prices...and other stuff as far as a build goes.

I just want to throw out there that I have 245,000 on it and alot has already been replaced. Also this will be a complete tear down and rebuild. Alot of people have different definitions of rebuild.

I'd tag along for the ride if you make a build thread.

honestly, for the price now adays, you can just buy a long block. when i was helping dad on his 351w we checked some shops and they wanted about a grand and a long block crate was 1300 bucks. so we went with the long block then we just swapped in a mild cam, headers , got some polished valve covers, new high flow oil pump, water pump, alt. and powersteering pump. its got about 2k in it. oh the motor came with a gasket kitoo, but we bought a full rubber kit.

I mentioned this in another thread, but try to reduce friction as much as you can. That's the goal of my rebuild. Try searching for aluminum roller rocker arms. I'd imagine the 1.6 lift pedestal mount rockers would be the easiest way to go with little to no modification.

Saw a roller master rebuild kit on eBay for around $500. Just my 2 cents

I want to keep the original engine in it. Ive looked everywhere high and low for a good 351w efi that is swap ready or even rebuildable nobody wants to get rid of theirs.

I'll keep my up on this. I love a good engine build up. I'm rebuilding a 454 for my boat this winter myself.
