i have tried the liability explanation, they dont buy it. not that im trying to lie to them, just not telling them all the reasons we cant do it. i just simply say "with it making that noise the policies wont allow us to change your oil" but at the same time i agree with you 100%

I don't pretend to know much about auto repair (yet), but I can generally tell if someone is feeding me a line. The most irritating thing about that is I trust an expert to be an expert. If my mechanic tells me I need XYZ part, then I'm going to buy XYZ part. If I find out that I've been lied to, I'll never do business with that person again and probably file a complaint with the BBB.

I know that attitude has cost me money in the past, and I know that some people (thankfully not many) take advantage of other people's trust, but it's just irritating.

yeah, i dont make up excuses for the reason we wont do it. and i cant stand shops that dont know what they are doing, basically throw parts at it, hell i can do that and save the labor cost. I got stiffed one time with a blazer, in stead of replacing the head and gasket they said i needed a new motor, i fell for it, that was before i learned a little about motors. now i dont do business with them anymore.

Its cuz they would flush your tranny with high pressures causing the decaying seals to possibly give way. tranny flushes are usually part of the process at quick lubes, And yes that could possibly damage your tranny by blowing out a seal....just drain and replace your fluid without flushing it, its simple. I wouldn't put that gunk eater in it either if it has over 100k on it beacause it might blow a seal over time cause the gunk that is removed is possibly holding in place or replacing a decayed seal. then your f'D....not all these people on this forum know what they are talking about.....trust me ask any good mechanic and they will tell you the same.

Ok so I'm running a 95 f150 xlt 4wd airb 302. My thermostat is oe and that means it's a 192 degree thermostat and that will run right at dead center of the gauge. If it is running lower than that it could be because the thermostat was changed out and the person that did the swap chose to use the 165 degree thermostat instead of the oe one. I am about to rebuild my engine with over 250,000 miles on it due to the engine being weak and showing signs of the start of a rod knock. I am chosing to go with the 165 thermostat because my truck tends to be run hard with all the hills in the Oakland area plus I like to go off roading sometimes and it sometimes gets quite hot while doing the off roading.

Run a can of "Transtune" for 100 miles before you do a change. Your tranny drivability will improve as varnish & sludge liquifies, even before the fluid change is preformed.
Pretty sure thats true though. Depending on mileage and drive use. If your transmission has never been serviced before and the mileage is over 100k you're better off leaving it alone. I've been reluctant to do my transmission fluid service on my focus due to it never being done and the car currently sits at 128k. Thats also my mistake as I bought the car brand new in 2018 and wasn't a mechanic at the time. But definitely do it or have it done if its within limits.
