No Fuel...need help
I just replaced my inline fuel pump because it sounded weak and I was having problems with the truck bucking last night on the way home. Well this morning the truck crapped out on my on the way to work. I got it towed home disconnected the fuel line didn't bother to depressurize the system thinking that there would be none since the pump had no ***** left to get the truck running but there was hell of a lot of fuel pressure there. Replaced the pump. Started to prime the system by just turning the key to the start position to get fuel to the rail but after 5 min of this and bleeding the air out of the fuel rail I still had no fuel. So I decided to disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter. Not a drop of fuel there. Spun the pump around and the pump still isn't putting out any fuel. Is there a chance that the switching valve is clogged? If so can it be cleaned out or does it have to be replaced? I talked to the manufacturer of the fuel pump and he told me that some of the switching valves actually have filters in them. Is this true?
im sorry to hear that you have to replace yours. I have been having a similar issue with mine. Hopefully you have better luck finding a replacement than I have, All the salvage yards around here come up empty for that part. I was also thinking about getting a single function reservoir as I only use one tank, but sadly that search has come up empty as well.
When searching around online, I have found that quite a few people bypass the dual function reservoir/valve... but I have also heard it mentioned that this part not only switched between the two tanks... but also helps keep the gas supply when the tank is low and the gas shifts in the tank.... anyone have any comments on this?
Anyways, I plan on attempting a bypass tomorrow using a short piece of 5/16" hose for the return line (with two couplers) and an extra fuel filter. I figure the extra fuel filter will act as a reservoir and probably wont hurt as my f150 sat for a few years before i owned it.
