Default Newbie with a question

I have a 89' XLT standard cab 4.9L, 4x4. I'm in the process of putting her back together, and putting a flat bed on her after putting in two fuel pumps and tanks. However I have a question about the air filter box. Whoever had this truck before me broke the box. I am wondering if I could make my own cold air intake? If I do what do I do with what I think is the PCV at the bottom of the filter box. I have looked for a filter box everywhere here and no luck, I just want to know if it is possible because I can't seem to find a junkyard box.

The breather at the bottom of the box is not a pcv. There should be a hose that connects to it that runs up to your valve cover on hooks to an elbow that enters the valve cover as a breather. LMCtruck.com may have a air box or even could pick one up at a local junk yard. If you still have your double factory double intake tubes... You could alway get a cai filter and not have to even worry about the box all together. Google this cai 57-2503. This filter runs a tube from the cai filter to your breather as well. Plus while your checking it out also check the installation direction. You will be removing the air box completely and drilling 3) 1/8 holes that hooks it on. Saves you from having to purchase another air box that you will be wanting to eliminate later to do a cai. Plus the results of this cai are pretty impressive.

I'd just like to point out one more time that this is NOT a COLD air induction. It does not bring in cold outside air but instead uses hot engine bay air. The factory intake was a cold air induction using an intake tube over the radiator or through the radiator mount. K&N sells a Cai kit that replaces the air filter and top half of the box and retains the factory cold air tube. Or you can get creative and run your own intake to cold air from OUTSIDE the engine bay. Otherwise the factor boxes are in many junkyards and on eBay. Just try a few searches.

Just for clarification, what you are calling a breather is part of the pcv system. The actual breather is that little filter inside the air box.

It's scavenges gases from the crankcase at high rpm when engine vacuum is low, and the pcv valve can not.

The question was not about the breather in the air box. So start over and read the post question again thou shallow minded. The question was of where to get a replacement air box.

That is why I said, "just for clarification".

Go to a junk yard for the air box. You will find them. Until you find 1 hold yours together with some duct tape.

If you really, really can't find 1 locally. PM me. I have 1 in my garage I don't want to part with but I would help you out.

You could check your local craigslist as well.

stick with stock intake also.. dont get that k&n crap. they have oil on the filters and long story short it messes with your truck. or it did mine anyways not sure about your year model.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I checked the junkyards here to no avail which is weird because Ive gotten springs and about everything else from them. I've also checked LMC which I should own stock in, and they don't have one. I'll keep watching eBay which I've been doing for a while, thanks about the k&n intake link but I think I had a little stroke when I saw $251 dollars. My wife already wants to kill me for this truck as it is, that may push her over the edge.

I don't have my catalogue on me at the moment but try National Parts Depot or Bronco Graveyard. Seems odd that such a common part on so many trucks should be that hard to find.
