I know it's kinda a shot in the dark but how can I tell what part is the problem? Sending unit, pump etc? I don't want to just throw parts at it

By testing for power. Ground pin 6 on the obd to see if the pump works after you have tested for power at the pump connection. Read,test,read some more, test again...

Ok thanks! I got a multi meter so I got the tools to test it just gotta find the test points
