All cars built since January 1, 1996 have OBD-II systems. So...unless your truck was one of the late 1995 models, you should have it. And even then, since it's a 96 model you should have the plug. As for the scanner, as long as it's got a handful of buttons on it so it will do more then just display the error, one of the options that comes up is usually to delete/remove the code. The one my friend bought from Auto Zone was 60 bucks and does everything we need.

The inspection on this truck is up @ the end of the month. In texas, if the CEL is on, you automatically fail.
So if I use a scanner to remove/delete the fault code;
(1) How long before the light come back on over the same code?
(2) Will I be able to pass inspection?
