Default new engine from ford

Well went to the ford dealership today and got a quote for a new stock 302 engine. It will cost $1775 for the engine, $1650 for labor which is 19 hours they said, and $500 for misc. Items that might be needed. They gave me a discount since my company takes our ambulances there for servicing so basically im looking at about $4100 for everything.... Worth it?

I'd just buy the motor and misc. items if you know how to drop a motor in. And if ya don't get a friend to help and pay him way less than the dealership.

if your willing to spend that much why just a 302? get a 460 or at least a 351 in there its a bit more but worth it. usually they have some mileage warranty on the new engines

A 302 is not complicated in the least bit to install. Look around for an individual or an independent shop to do the install. Also, look into reman long blocks from either jasper or auto parts stores.

Assuming money isn't a problem I would trust the dealer over an unknown mechanic. I know people are down on dealerships, but they are Ford trained and have all the factory parts and information. They are also a big company likely to stand behind their warranties. The engine will be factory new not from some unknown vendor. And if their training is like my Ford training they spend alot of time working on these trucks. Now if you know a better shop that you trust, more power to you. And I know some dealerships are crappy so don't bother telling me all your horror stories.

They wont do a different engine other than the 302, and the warranty is 3 years unlimited mileage
