So I feel the need to rebuild my engine haha. What i actually plan on is buying a 5.8 out that is used and work on it so i can still rod around in my truck. What is a good idea to do to an engine if i want some good power but yet have it as a daily driver? Should I punch it out .30 over? The problem is i dont want to mess with the computer cuz that is a PAIN and spendy.

You can't get too crazy without upgrading to mass-air (96 or newer computer and maf sensor). The map motors don't do big cams very well. You could/should definitely punch the block out and maybe go with better flowing heads.

Next time dixiedarkhorse is around he can give you some better ideas.

Thinking .30 oversize is a bit much. .030 is the first oversize that machine shops do. Just being an ***. Don't have the intel about the MAF sensors would think or hope it would still be in the parameters. Letting the machine shops do their thing and you building the engine is an excellant idea. Study and learn as you disassemble and reassemble. Understanding the oil system, coolant flow, internal engine timing will put you a notch or two above the rest. Good luck.

I put shorty headers on mine with a 3" cat-back and k-n filter kit and got good results.

best thing you can do for starters is come up with a budget AND stick to it. I can help you maximize your dollar, but you first need to know how much you can spend.

Well....i already have shortie flowtech headers, and instead of the 3" cat back, i have a 2 1/4" true dual no cats

Well 1800 isn't a whole to work with but like i said, i will help you maximize it. I'm pretty sure your 95 is mass air so thats a plus. Just off the top of my head i would take everything apart on the old engine, BAG AND TAG EVERYTHING please. Then send the block out to be hot tanked, bored .030 w/ torque plates, line honed and decked. Along with that i would say your going to have to reuse the stock crank and rods. i would buy a new set of .030 over speed pro hypereutectic pistons. Your also going to need new crank and rod bearings, i recommend clevite. Now what i normally do is send the block, crank, rods, pistons, bearings to the machine shop. After the block checks out, the crank and rods need to be cleaned, polished and resized. A good shop will request the pistons as well because you need to hone each cylinder to each piston thats going to run in that cylinder. You should end up with around $800-900 bucks in your completed short block. To maximze the power i would then begin to look for a good used set of cylinder heads. when you find a good set, then i would buy and cam to compliment those heads. New timing set and oil pump as well. Everything else you can just clean and put back together stock. I would expect around 300hp.
