Default Need help testing TPS

I was testing TPS and was not getting signal voltage. I have 5.05 volts and a good ground. So I go buy a new TPS. I get same results. Could there be another issue or did I just get a bad unit?

Just pulled connector from ecm. Tp signal wire ohms out. Battery was disconnected. New sensor resistance readings are a lot further off than my old one. I am an electrician and it is beyond me right now as to why I am not getting any voltage on the old or the new sensor signal wire. All else seems to be good.

Okay after jacking with this thing I've come to realize I got bad Intel for testing. It was having me go from signal wire to battery ground. To test one must confirm 5v reference. This can be done to battery ground. Next verify sensor has ground from ECU. This is done to battery positive. Now between signal wire and sensor ground you should have at idle .9-1.5 volts. Rotate throttle to wide open. Should have smooth increase to around 5v.

Use an analog meter so that you can easily see if there are any inconsistencies. If there is a bad spot you will see it drop and go right back up (possibly). With a digital meter it will not be seen.

I get a signal (reading) on my signal wire with the lead going to the battery negative. Not sure why you don't - one of those weird things I guess. Your solution worked though so that's a good one to tuck away in the troubleshooting drawer.
Everything I've read shows that closed throttle reading should be .9 on our trucks. Other vehicles may have higher base line settings.

I really don't understand why I wasn't. My old TPS was out of range at wide open on resistance. I am not sure yet as to we the or not that is my issue with it seeming like it was cutting out @30-45mph (steady). Getting ready to take it for spin and see how it acts. I can only pray!
If it doesn't fix I can only assume it is in the tranny
