Need help fast!
On my 1995 f-150 4x4 the rear u joint on the driveshaft needs to be replaced. but since i was down there i was going to do both of them.
i looked on youtube for an instructional video. the guys in the video i watched welded the new u joint in. do i need to do this or do i just put those clips back in?? im coming home from college in a few days and wanna replace it then, so thanks a ton for the help!

No you do not need to weld it. I have always just used a block of wood, two sockets, and a hammer. Get one socket just bigger then Universal. Set the driveshaft on the block of wood and the open socket toward the universal then use take a socket just slightly smaller then the universal to drive the universal out with the hammer.

No welding involved but i have used an oxy/acetylene torch to burn out the old ones.
The job is a lot easier if you can mount the drive shaft up in a pipe vise so that the work is right there in front of you.

alright, thanks for the imput guys, so i suppose its easier to take the whole drive shaft off and work on it rather than replace them under the truck?? and do i need to mark anything to keep it all aligned??

Just to add my comment. No never weld a u joint. It will ruin the temper on the bearings and over heat the grease which will likely catch fire. Second, a u joint is designed to be a wear part. If you weld it in you will have to build a new driveshaft nest time it wears out. And third there is a yoke at both ends on most drive shafts. Last mark the shaft so the yokes go back in the same alignment. It will keep it balanced.
