Need air bag help!!!
No not the kind for suspension! Lol my dad just bought a 96 single cab F150. Well it has a blown steering wheel air bag and as far as we know it has never been wrecked, thats what they told him anyways. Getting another one is not the problem but we don't not want to go and install it connect it then BOOM!
That would not be good. So any suggestions bad computer, impact sensor, ground??? Anyone ever ran into anything like this? I would help him check it out but he lives 450 miles from me so I figured I would ask you guys.
Thanks for any info!

I have basically the same truck, but '94. I'm the third owner, and apparently it's never been wrecked. the second owner bought it from a dealership around 30,000 miles, said the air bag light has been blinking ever since he got it. I took it to a mechanic soon after I bought it, and he said although the air bag itself works, the computer thinks it's already been deployed, so in an accident, will fail to do so.
the problem apparently lies within the horn. the horn on the steering wheel died, so it's hooked up via a doorbell-thing underneath the steering column. my mechanic said the power normally going to the horn is going through the air bag instead.
I suppose it is also possible that a previous owner crashed it and never filed a report on it. I know a guy with the same exact truck who rebuilt almost his entire front end at home after crashing into a pole.

Ty is exactly right. If youtry installing an airbag and there is a problem it can blow in your face, causing serious injury. Static electricity can set one off. ALso a shop should have the proper equip. to diag the airbag system. It might not have been in a wreck. They could have hit a curb good and hard. I would look at the rims for bent rims and the suspension pretty close. Then again.....
