Need advice... 1995 Ford F-150 5.8 Ext cab
Hello all. I just wanted to say I am new to the forum and if this is not allowed please delete.
I am in the process of buying a 1995 Ford F-150 XLT Extended cab eddie bauer (5.8l 351 with the e40d trans)
Good friends own a local junkyard, and someone brought this truck in the other day. It had a dead battery, but upon swapping batteries and adding some fuel, i managed to get the truck to fire right up by bridging the solenoid. It runs and drives fine, just about 134k miles on the odometer. It seems to have sat for a extended period of time, as it was last inspected in November 2012 with 132k miles. Two issues i have are that it won't start from the key (solenoid issue?) It just clicks once. Also, the instrument tach works great aside from the fuel gauge, (it registers far past full.) Could there be too much old gas in the tank in addition to what i put in, or maybe this is a sending unit problem? Overall, I am just wondering about what I should look for and steps i should take before trying to get it inspected. I already plan to drop the oil pan, flush the fluids, bleed the brakes, etc. I will also attach some pics I took of the truck today. I won't have it until thursday, as they are getting the title tommorow. Thanks for any input/ideas you might be able to contribute.

How are you bridging the solenoid? I assume you are connecting the two large terminals on the solenoid?(this bypasses the solenoid, as you obviously know). If you run a jumper from the large terminal on the solenoid that the cable from the positive battery post is hooked on, to that small terminal that has the slip on wire hooked to it(pull the slip on wire off so you have a bare terminal) that will test the solenoid.

I knew it had potential the moment I checked it out. You never see them like this. I was gonna save a 94 bronco there, but it had all the tires taken off, sat on the ground and became super rusty, sagged headliner and the engine is seized sadly. It'll make a great parts truck though.
