Default motor back firing and missing

Hello
I have a 94 f150 with 5.0/302.I had to change the motor and I bought a motor off a friend that he modified to put in a ranger. It is an 87 model that was rebuilt about 50,000 miles ago and he put a 4 barrel carb on it. Well I put it in my truck and put my intake and other parts on it. Now the motor is missing real bad, back firing, and has no power, I have put new plugs and plug wires and checked several times to make sure the plug wires are correct and its timed at 10 deg BDTC. I am running out of ideals on what could be wrong. He drove the truck to my house so I know it ran good before I put the motor in my truck. I'm wondering if there could be conflict with the year.
