You stated the truck is running rough and smells like gas....

A bad fuel pressure regulator diaphragm comes to mind......

When my fuel pressure diaphragm failed it allowed lots of fuel to enter my intake manifold up through the vacuum tube that trickled down to the cylinders and into the oilpan.....

Had a small hole in the dipstick tube that allowed fuel to hit the ground when the oilpan filled up for me to notice and when looked why it happened I then found the culprit...

Just before it happened to those extremes as the diaphragm was dying my truck had the same running symptoms....I thought my ignition coil was failing...........It became obvious the coil couldnt keep up with the excess fuel being burnt against its will;- neither could the sparkplugs.....LOL

Good Luck

Oh great something else to check lol. Are you talking about the fuel injection regulator? Is there a way to test it before I throw more parts at this truck?
