Default Missing or transmission problem?

94 F150; 300 ci; automatic..... was running down the highway today and truck began to cut out or buck. Plenty of gas, truck was well warmed up, going about 65 mph. I kicked the transmission into neutral and coasted to the edge of the road. Kept coasting and revved the engine a few times without evidence of missing. Dropped the transmission into Drive and continued the trip with no problem.
Is there any component of the transmission that would cause the engine to feel like it was missing or bucking? Or could there be some engine issue that I should check out?
Any help will be appreciated.

Have you checked for codes or checked fuel pressure?

About a week before my Map sensor died my truck, A 95 300 with the 5 speed, started missing while climbing a hill. I did change out the Autolite plugs since AZ had them on sale and they were due but knew that they weren't the problem.
My computer never set a code for the Map but its was running very rich and would not idle when it finally failed.
