So soon after i fixed my misfire problem in one of my cylinders with a new distributor, my transmission seems to have crapped out on me. It was having a hard time shifting once in a while, high revs and rough shifting. So today when i got home and tried to put it in reverse it would not go. Going forward was not a problem. Well, after letting it sit for a bit off and then turning it back on, my reverse WORKS NOW but i cant go forward. Its flip flopped on me. It makes a high pitch whirling sound when i rev it that i have never heard.
Is my transmission completely shot? Could it be some sensor? (no codes so far)

 

Your signature doesn't mention WHICH transmission you have, or its maintenance history. Put ALL the truck's details in it. Is the fluid at the correct level? How old (time/miles) is it? What brand & type is it? How old is the pan filter? Does it have an inline, like Ford recommends? If so; how old is THAT filter?

Its an e40d. Fluid level is correct. Fluid and trans filter was changed less than two months ago with mercon V, where i found no metal shavings. Its a napa trans filter. Its a deep pan and has original ford printing on it. To my knowledge, the transmission has 140,000 miles on it.

 

Does anyone have recommendations for a remanufactured trans company that is NOT ford or jasper?

 

why would you replace the transmission whe you have not identified th transmission as being worn out.
you have an early year electronic control transmission.im not syaing that makes it have issues.., but.... you should diagnose.
