Default MAF Conversion

I did some searching for this but was unable to come up with any answers.

My 93 F150 Does not have a MAF. I was thinking of like upgrading to a newer ECU, MAF, Bigger Injectors, ETC.....

What are the detailed parts that I will need to complete this conversion?

I was wanting to go newer so I can read with ODB-II, and maybe plug in some Hypertech or Edge modules to gain some performance and tuning capabilities.

My ultimate goal is to be able to turn 38" tires with little ease. I know I will need to change out my gears to at least 4.56's, but that will not be enough. I need more power out of my 5.0. When I upgrade the gears I will more than likely replace the rear axel with a ford 9 inch as well.

How much power will be needed to turn this size tire over well.

So even after the MAF bigger injectors what else could I do. I was looking into a cam and lifter kit but don't really know what I am look at. I know it will increase the amount of air in and out of the heads but dont understand the numbers.......

To up to an OBD2 setup you need to get the computer, wiring harness, sensors, intake, heads, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, maf and any additional sensors from a donor Explorer or Mountaineer with the 5.0. This is a change my friend wants to do to his Mustang. You can get a chip for your computer. IF you want to change to just a maf you need to find a doner truck with a MAF sensor and get the computer out of it. I don't know what changes are made I know there is at least a wiring harness for the maf and some pin changes on the ECM plug. Might want to look into doing that. We upgraded the Mustang to MAF, but its a pain in the butt and I can't explain how its done. It was an all day process.

You can have a custom burned chip from SCT if you make motor changes and need to tune for them.

Mustangs unlimited in CT sell a MAF conversion Kit for early Speed Density trucks IE the Lightning. If you have a ford racing catalog it is in there as well. Kit will run you the higher side of $500 but everything you need is there.

technically speed density is a better setup than MAF. It has its pro's and cons, I initial tune is finicky to say the least but with a little playing and some time you can make good power with a custom tune. Alot of my GM (GTO, Transam) friends are converting back to SD because of the power difference from the MAF. Another example of what i have come across, 87 5.0L automatic SD car i owned made 13more rwhp than my 89 5.0L stick car. All bone stock on the dyno before i build the engines. Some will say different but I've experimented and found it does work!!!

We did the numbers between SD and MAF on the same car with no other changes and it was a 4.5 hp difference. Not enough to worry about.. MAF is better for drivability and tunability.
