Default SuperDuty4x4

10 mpg average with 12.50 x 35 tires - (City/Highway driving)
12 mpg average with 11.50 x 32 tires - (City/Highway driving)

1987 F-150 4x4

4.9 L - 300ci Fuel Injected

3.54:1 gears

Automatic C-6 Transmission (No over-drive)

Air conditioner

Weight: 5400 lbs. (Fairbanks DOT Commercial Scale)

12.50 x 35 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A Tires

Driving 60 mph with 35" tires; tachometer reads 2600 RPM in final gear.

The low mileage, rebuilt & balanced engine runs perfect. (60K)

The Straight Six is a long stroke, low RPM engine. (4000 RPM red-line)

This is normal mpg for the work-horse 4.9 L engine with the above options.

Years ago!
15.5 average on a:
1978 F-150 4.9L, 4x4, 3.50:1 gears, 12.50 x 33 bias ply tires,

I'm getting the ****test milage ever!!!! Rear tank all highway driving @ 65-70 mph and I got 110 miles on it! No hot rodding, all stock except for k&n intake and muffler. This is with the 302. The post above got me thinking because I'm @ 1/4 water temp all the time so maybe Im stuck in close loop. I think I gave a 160 thermostat. What are you guys using because with both tanks I got alittle over 250 miles.

The last time I calculated it I was getting 15.8 mpg during my weekly driving which is a mix of city/highway.

I haven't calculated yet but, I KNOW it's better than before because I can drive longer on a tank of gas. I have a couple more projects/repairs to do then I'll recaculate it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, it's a 5.0L, AODE-W and 4.10 gears!
