Default LSD Swap?

Hello all, I have a 1989 F150 with the 302 in it that I'm looking to swap an LSD into the rear. Any recommendations?

Would prefer the junk yard swap but am open to purchasing an aftermarket and depending on price and more than likely pay the shop to swap it in. If theirs an Bronco or other truck that has one on an earlier or later model that I can rip out and transplant in to the truck I would much prefer that option.

Future goals are to increase the hp's but know that the real gain would be to swap in the 351. Might happen but it's a DD work truck not trying to whoop some tail on the streets, that's why I have a Kawi for that.

Just curious if theirs anything out there for this and more than likely a thread already created and I'm just not seeing it....

Thank you,
Turf7

Suggest to scour the junkyards first. Not sure if the Gen8 (87-91) or Gen9 (92-96) Broncos will swap, would think they would, as it's essentially just a super-short-bed pickup with a shell - but defer to someone with more experience. Converting with aftermarket and especially paying a shop will get pricey. You didn't mention whether it was 4WD - if so, have to keep the front and rear axle ratios identical.

I just put in a Jegs Eaton clone 8.8 posi. Maybe it is Eaton private label white box genuine article or maybe it is imported, but the box says made-in-USA. I don't know, but it installed perfectly with the same shims the original diff had. It was on sale for $329 this summer and with bearings, oil and additive ,ring gear bolts, a gasket, and some attention to the wheel cylinders while I had it apart, it cost about $420. The action is smooth, but more aggressive than a factory trac-loc. I'm thinking about buying another one for my other OBS.

Spend your time learning to drive off-road, and save your money. You'll go farther. I'm still running open diffs front & rear in my Bronco, and I rarely have to winch it through a trail.

You can get a factory LSD from any F150, Explorer, or Bronco in the JY that has a LSD equipped 8.8 as they will be 31-splined and a direct fit into your 8.8.

8.8's in cars use a 28-spline LSD and axles.
