Loss of power while driving
My 1989 Ford F150 is generally a dream truck. It always has had plenty of power and get up and go even with almost 400k miles.
However, the other day while driving in 4th gear it just sort of started to cruise and coast along and it felt like the gas wasn't getting through. I pushed in the clutch and pumped the gas while cruising down the road and VAROOM it took off with plenty of power. It did this a few other times on the way home in 2nd gear too. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?
The other problem it has developed is when I turn the key (every 30 times or so) it starts fine but the engine turns at a very fast rate and even though I turn the key off it still runs wide open. It sometimes stops if I put it in gear and then it starts up just fine like nothing ever happened. Please also let me know if you know what this problem is.
I have just found this forum and really enjoy reading the other threads about how to fix the F150. Thanks to everyone that responds. I appreciate your advice especially since I haven't a clue.

Hmmm--I only use the front tank since the back one has a slow leak. Where is the fuel filter located in my truck? I bet that it does need changing. Is this something a little old lady can do? I better take it in.
How often should it be changed? Thank you by the way.
