Looking to buy
Hello all, I used to own a 93 4x2 F150 with an inlinesix/automatic but after 10 years is was just to rusty and beat up to keep hergoing. I loved that truck and I havebeen without it for 4 years. I'll be looking at getting another one here real soon.
I've been searching the forum for a few hours but haven'tfound anything. I'm just wondering if there is a good buyers guide threads outthere with some good info on the 87-96 F series trucks.
Found one in the Minnesota region that I like and waswandering what I should be looking. I am familiar with the typical rust spots(wheel wells, corners) and what not but a bit clueless on the 5.0/5.8 motorsand transfer cases. Sorry to do the newb thing and ask the same question that has been answered 1000 times but just looking for the right direction to go.
Thanks guys.

302's are fairly common, in 95 and 96 they started using the 302 HO and actually put the roller lifter /cam setup in.
You might want to get to that vintage as well to get the MAF system which is a little more advanced as far as engine management goes. The older ones had speed density controls for engine management
95 still used the OBD1 computer system which at least you can check codes on without a special tester. 96 went to OBD2 which is the standard for all vehicles.
Transmissions, the manuals are pretty much all M5OD's, the autos were AOD up to 92 ish, I think. Later you get into the 4R70w which is not a bad transmission, the E4OD is a tough one, it's a C6 with overdrive, but the earlier ones had issues which weren't all sorted out 'till 95.
Those are some of the main things, other than driveline and interior features, it was basically the same truck from 80 to 96.
They're all nice, it's mostly about body style and interior anyway, but personally I think the 95, 96 versions were when they finally got things sorted out, just in time to change everything in 97
